Crawford's Village Bakery

"Where can I get a really good pie?"

I asked this question at work today because it was Pi Day. My boss recommended Crawford's in Brampton. I'd never heard of it. "It's just west of the Apple Factory," she said.

I made a mental note to visit the Apple Factory someday, then I got in my car and drove to Crawford's.

Pie heaven, where have you been all my life?!

Crawford's is a bakery, a chocolate shop and a small shopping market for jams, fruit preserves and other tasty treats. I made the mistake of going at lunch time, when I was hungry. I walked out with $50 worth of food including chocolate truffles, fruit tarts, maple crunch popcorn and a chocolate cream pie.

Crawford's is famous (apparently) for its butterscotch pie. It's not available all the time, but is prepared on a regular schedule. (The next batch is due in late April I believe.)

The tarts and pie we tried were excellent. The chocolates were better than excellent -- the best I've tasted anywhere since the Partners in Chocolate store disappeared from Sherway Gardens more than a decade ago. (We're still mad at the Godiva chocolate store that appeared soon after Partners went away, but that's a story for another day.)

I wish I could point you to Crawford's web site, but they don't seem to have one. For now, you can marvel at the Crawford's business card, look them up on Google Maps and plan your pilgrimage to pie-ville.
