Kids like nuggets. Kids like mac and cheese. Why not combine them?
The answer: because it's weird.
I thought my kids would love mac-a-cheezee nuggets. Instead, they reacted with confusion. This was followed by skepticism, then open hostility.
They each took one bite and that was that.
I tried again a couple of weeks later and got the same reaction. "These things again? Dad! Ew!"
The texture is a bit weird, and they tend to burst and leak cheese if you overcook them, but there's nothing wrong with the mac and cheese or the nugget coating. It's just that putting them together doesn't work.
The lesson? Just because two things are good doesn't mean you should smoosh them together. Combining these two kid-friendly treats turns out to make as much sense as putting chocolate cake inside pie crust. Sure, many people like both cake and pie but they don't want them combined.
