We went pie shopping today.
I've been meaning to take Lori (Mrs. TasteBuddy) to Crawford's Bakery in Brampton. I wanted her to see the place and sample the handmade chocolates.
This was a perfect day for pie shopping. It was raining and gloomy -- not bright enough or warm enough to throw open the windows for spring cleaning. We left our older kids doing homework and loaded the younger two into our van for the drive to Brampton.
Once inside, we took in the sights and smells of the bakery and began to fill a basket with goodies. Toby (8) and Tess (4) were especially interested in the candies and cookies. I focused on the pies and Lori browsed the chocolates and the crafts.
Here's what we brought home:
- one regular size apple pie
- one small banana cream pie
- one small steak & Guinness meat pie
- one package of shortbread cookies
- one package of pecan cinnamon cookies
- four peanut butter sandwich cookies
- one gingerbread lady
- three handmade chocolate truffles
- two old fashioned hard candy sticks
Today's "find" was peanut butter sandwich cookies. Take two large homemade peanut butter cookies and place between them a delicious mixture of peanut butter, icing sugar, heavy cream, mini chocolate chips and chopped pecan pieces. Yum!
They're almost a meal and a bit "pluggy" as Mrs. TasteBuddy would say. You'll want to have a tall glass of cold milk standing by.
I considered buying more of the delicious gingerbread loaf but decided that can wait until my next visit.
And I know when that will be: the weekend of April 25th. That's the next time when Crawford's is scheduled to make their famous butterscotch pie.
I can't remember the last time we had three pies in the fridge. What a great day!
